HS Library Deputy De Santis Selected for NLM/AAHSL Leadership Fellows Program

Melissa De Santis, Deputy Director of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Library on the Anschutz Medical Campus, has been selected for the 2012-2013 class of the leadership program, jointly sponsored by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL).  Ms. De Santis has served as Deputy since late 2007 and previously was Assistant Director of Public Services at the Briscoe Library, University of Texas Science Center at San Antonio.

The NLM/AAHSL Leadership Fellows Program prepares emerging leaders for director positions in academic health sciences libraries. Selection is recognition of a substantial record of accomplishment and demonstrable potential. The program provides a combination of in-person and virtual learning experiences for Fellows, and offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with the cohort of participants.  Fellows are paired with mentors who are academic health sciences library directors.  Ms. De Santis’ mentor will be Neil Rambo, Director, New York University Health Sciences Libraries and Knowledge Informatics.

This will be the eleventh year of the Fellows program.  Since it began, twenty graduates have assumed director positions.

When she learned of her selection, Ms. De Santis said, “I’m excited and honored to have been chosen to participate in this year’s Fellow’s class.  I’m looking forward to meeting the others in my cohort and working with my mentor.”

According to HSL Director Jerry Perry, “We are so proud of Melissa and her many achievements, and especially delighted that she has been selected for the Fellows Program.  This is a truly prestigious professional advancement program, and membership in the cohort is acknowledgement of Melissa’s abundant skills and potential.  This year’s cohort of Fellows and Mentors is exceptional!”
