Exhibit – Physicians and Automobiles

At the turn of the 20th century, a new technology was changing how physicians did business in the United States.  To help its members adapt to this change, the American Medical Association (AMA) devoted most of an issue of its Journal in 1906, 1908 and 1909 to the selection, maintenance and use of an automobile in medical practice.  Most of these articles consisted of personal accounts and pictures of doctors and their vehicles.  A selection of these articles are featured in the exhibit case on the 3rd floor of the Health Sciences Library.
